I think you are asking how Indian secularism is different from Western secularism (democratic society according to you).

Indian secularism, is indeed, different from Western secularism. In western secularism, there is no interference of the state in religious affairs and vice versa.

India also follows the same belief but in a different manner. In India also, State doesn't meddle with the religion. However, to uphold the Constitution ideals and principals, it can intervene.

For eg: We have an article i.e. Article 17 which abolishes untouchability. Untouchability was a practice which was widely prevalent in the Hindu religion. With the principled intervention of the State, it got abolished. This is the difference.

Indian secularism like the western secularism, does not favour any single religion, people can propogate and practice any religion, which they admire. State will not favour any particular religion.
