How information affected by society and culture

How does society affect culture?
Different societies and their attitudes can affect the culture of a country or region, and its consequent practices and norms.
For example, a more open society has a culture that is being shaped by other cultures, adopting passing practices and interesting trends picked up from foreigners and/or minorities. It may sometimes be more willing to change its practices and norms, if it is considered an advantage.
A closed society may be more defensive of their way of life, so they continue their practices with minimal influence from others.
Well, I would argue it is the other way around. Society affects culture not the other way around. The reason being that culture is dynamic and very dependant on how people’s traditions and values are affected by the society around it.
For example, the industrial revolution totally changed American society. Culture built around agriculture was shifted to society’s industrial needs. This included among other things shifts that start and end at a certain time, urbanization, and the advent of new machinery.
I am not saying that this is always the case. Indeed the culture of many peoples has been impervious to societal changes like largely that of the Amish. That being said, culture usually adjusts.
