Ions are those species which have positive or negative charges, There are two types of Charges,

1. Cation
2. Anion

The ions are formed when one species donates their electron to achieve the noble gas configuration. These type of species are Cations.

Ex = Na+ , Mg2+ ,etc.

Where as on the other hand the species which takes electron from other atom/element to achieve noble gas configuration are called Anions.

Ex = Cl- , F- , etc .
