Answers
Answer:
Democracy is the process through which we can decide what we should do with that which we all share. In a purely privatised libertarian society with no government, there could be no democracy because there are no democratically accountable bodies, only private ones which act on behalf of their owners. In a society where important institutions and key components of the economy are part of the government, democracy can determine the very direction that society moves in.
Not all governments are democratic, however, and I would argue that neither the USA nor the UK is a real democracy. In these countries people elect representatives to make their decisions for them, rather than making decisions democratically. The candidates for high office are largely selected through the mechanisms of corporate media, lobbying, and powerful networks so that the only ones who make it onto the ballot paper occupy the small limited section of the political spectrum that is deemed acceptable by the ultra-rich.
These representative democracies in which money infiltrates politics and the media are still closer to plutocracies than democracies, just not as much a libertarian society would be.
