The skates are made up of iron by bottom, when those iron skates exerts pressure on the snow, friction is produce. Thus, they are able to glide on ice.

An Ice skater is able to glide on Ice because the some melted water between the blades of skater and Ice reduces the friction beTwwen the two surfaces i.e., THE BLADES AND ICE . So the skater is able to glide on Ice with a little efforts.
