Difference between Temporary Magnet and Permanent Magnet
Temporary magnet
- It behaves as a magnet only for the time during which current flows through it. When no current flows through it, it looses its magnetism. Eg. Solenoid, electromagnet.
- It produces a comparatively stronger magnetic field.
- The strength of its magnetic field can be changed by increasing the magnitude of current or increasing the no. of turns of the coil.
- Its polarity can be changed by changing the terminals of the cell/battery.
Permanent Magnet
- Its magnetism is permanent, ie it can't los its magnetism.
- It produces a comparatively weaker magnetic field.
- The strength of its magnetic field can't be changed.
- Its polarity can't be changed.
