oxides of Nitrogen, sulphur and carbon reacts with water to form nitrous acid, notice acid, sulphurous acid, sulphuric acid and carbonic acid.

Harmful effects of Acid rain :-

(I) The acid rain causes degradation of marble of different and ancient monuments or historical heritage. This phenomena is also called marble cancer. Apart from this acid rain also degrade buildings and Railway lines etc.

(ii) Pond water becomes acidic.

(iii) pH of soil decreases which

affect the absorption by plant and the salt becomes infertile.

(iv) It causes burning sensation in eyes and skin and damage the membranes of plants and animals.
