Acid rain is caused by a chemical reaction that begins when compounds like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air.

when nitrogen oxides (in the form of gas in atmosphere)react with rain water i.e, react with H2O it forms nitric acid and then it falls on land in form of rain.that is called acid rain
