In any modulation process, two signals are used namely MODULATING SIGNAL & CARRIER. ... In simple words: when the amplitude of the carrier is changed as per the instantaneous amplitude modulating signal, it can be said that amplitude modulation is achieved.

Hey Friend,

Modulation of a wave is just very necessary because a low frequency message signal cannot travel to large distances, so amplitude modulation is done to carry this message signals to large distance.

It is achieved by superimposing low frequency message signal(generally Audio Frequency) is superimposed on high radio frequency Carrier wave. Hence to transmit the message signals to large distances without its attenuation.
