. The abnormal haemoglobin molecule is formed due to point mutation. The p-globin chain of haemoglobin molecule is mutated which replaces glutamic acid with valine at the sixth position. As a result, the erythrocytes became sickle-shaped and the oxygen-carrying capacity of the cells is inhibited.
