Follow the instructions to make an electromagnet:
Take an iron nail and a long insulated copper wire. Make a winding of the wire on the iron nail. Connect the metal copper within the insulated wire to the battery through a key. Bring some small iron pieces near the iron nail. Switch on the key. The copper winding creates an electromagnet which attracts the iron pieces.
OR
When an electric current flows in a wire, electromagnet creates a magnetic field around the wire. By winding the wire into a coil we can strengthen the magnetic field. Electromagnets are made from coils like this.
