HUMANS ARE ANIMALS ONLY. But as you are asking, humans are special because they are the only living beings with "SELF CONSCIOUSNESS". Every organism has consciousness but not Self consciousness, and this very thin difference makes Homo sapiens different. Humans are the most intelligent creatures in the universe, and probably the only one who could sleep on their backs (sleep on the spinal cord, posterior side)
