Maximum density at 4°C means that the bottom of a river or a lake or the sea (if deep enough) never freeze. So in winter or in very cold areas, when the surface water freezes, the aquatic biota can happily continue to live in their 4°C water, sustaining aquatic life.

Answer: they stay under water having temp of 4°c . And dont die but surface water of same water have o°c so they don't come to surface which help them to survive in severe winter as well.. HOPE IT HELPS YU
