How is area of absorption maximised in lungs

The air from the atmosphere reaches the lung by travelling thru nose, trachea n bronchi. Ther r two bronchi going into d two lungs. These bronchi r further divided into many smalls bronchioles. The bronchioles end with a round balloon lyk structure called alveoli. Here the exchange of gases takes place.The alveoli are connected with millions of arteries n veins. The alveoli being spherical in shape require less volume but have more surface area hence increasing the area of exchange of gases. Hope it helps
