The pulmonary valve sits between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery. Its role is to prevent the backflow of blood into the right ventricle after it contracts. The aortic valve sits between the left ventricle and the aorta and prevents backflow of blood into the left ventricle after it contracts.to maintain the position of the tricuspid and bicuspid valves. to prevent backflow of blood from the aorta and pulmonary artery into the left ventricle and right ventricle respectively

back flow of blood is prevented by vessels present in the vein whereas in artery due to high pressure back flow is prevented.
