Melting of wax is a physical change because the state of matter (wax) is changed ( which is an indication of phy. change) and also we can reverse this
Burning of wax is chemical change because it involves melting of wax as well as formation of gas and production of heat and light which are indicators of chemical change and can't be reversed.

When you light a candle, the heat of the flame melts the wax near the wick. This liquid wax is then drawn up the wick by capillary action. The heat of the flame vaporizes the liquid wax (turns it into a hot gas), and starts to break down the hydrocarbons into molecules of hydrogen and carbon.
