Pure water can be obtained in the following ways:

Distillation

Water can be boiled and the vapour can be condensed in a condenser.

Deionization

It is a chemical process which uses specially manufactured ion-exchange resin. These resins exchange hydrogen and hydroxide ions for dissolved minerals. Then they recombine to form water.

Demineralization

It refers to the removal of all the minerals present in natural water. The water is softened and undesired minerals are replaced by different salts.

Other processes used to purify water are reverse osmosis, microporous filtration, ultraviolet oxidation, electrodialysis, ultrafiltration and carbon filtration.
