Is history as a subject in Class 11th difficult? What should one's approach be for a good understanding of it and for remembering dates/places?

I'm currently coming to an end of my 11th year and I have done both ancient and modern history and thoroughly enjoyed both and I am currently planning on continuing this with the History extension class. It's a great subject and with a good teacher it's even better.

Just a few things to keep in mind is that you will need a good memory. You will also need to be quiet proficient in writing essays up to 3 pages minimum.

Some methods to remembering are using different highlighters for each ‘fact.’ Blue for dates, yellow for people etc. This subject also requires a lot of reading outside the class. You need evidence for every argument or statement made in essays. This means quotes. My bibliography/ reference page is usually the full page of sources I have used. It's not a light subject but if you enjoy history then it will not be a burden at all.

Depending on your class or teacher you could be doing multiple studies at once. Just last term, I had an assessment on the Cold War, learning about WW1 which was the current topic and was starting on a investigation where we had to chose our own topic. I enjoyed this a lot as it meant I wouldn't be concentrating on one thing for extended periods of time but it can be difficult for some.

The only reason this subject should be difficult is if your don't put in effort. Study is a big part of it and love for history is an even bigger part of it.

Hope this will help you ☺
