it is from by the remains of plants ands wood. when it press under the soil in the absence of oxygen. it take millions and millions of air.

most of coal we use now was formed about 300millions years ago,when much of the earth was covered by steamy swamps.A s plants and trees died,their remains sank to the bottom of swampy areas,making layers and layers of plant materials and eventually forming a soggy ,thick material called coal...
