Coke is formed by the destructive distillation of coal. Coke is the residue  left after the destructive distillation of coal. It is a tough, black and porous substance. It is the pure form of coal. Coke is used in the manufacturing of steel and in the extraction of many metals.

Uses of Coke :-

Some important uses of coke are,

1) Coke is used as a domestic fuel.
2) Coke is used as a reducing agent in metallurgical processes.
3) Coke is used for producing fuel gases.
4) Coke is used for producing carbides

Coke is a very important fuel.It is a smokeless fuel. It is formed when coal is heated in the absence of air,the volatile impurities (having low melting point and boiling point)& moisture get removed.The solid left behind is Coke.
