It is done with the help of the gastric juices released by the small intetine.

Hcl- kills microbes in our food,and makes the medium acidic for pepsin to act.

Mucus-protects the walls of the stomach from the normal actions of Hcl.

Pepsin-converts proteins to amino acids.
