Corrosion is helpful for some metals like Aluminium.
Corrosion makes a protective thin layer. These layers are formed when the metal is exposed to air. The layer is of its metal oxide. It prevents that metal from further atmospheric corrosion. You can remove this layer later and it can gain it's lustre again.
