In cross breeding technique, anthers are removed (emasculation) from flowers of one variety of plants. Pollens from other variety at transferred on the stigma of emasculated flowers. These flowers are then covered with plastic bags to prevent pollen from other sources. The seeds formed in such flowers are hybrids and give rise to hybrid plants that have characters of both the parent plants.

The process of cross breeding is repeated for several generations to ensure that the desired characters have become established in the new hybrid variety.
