First of all, we should know a broader concept of Diversity and Taxonomy. Diversity refers to the various life forms which are different interms of nutrition, habitat, characteristics, cellular organization etc. The diversity was differently explained by the scientists and this leads to problem to remember all these life forms.

From here only, the need of grouping arised.

It is done in three processes, Identification,Nomenclature and Classification.

These life forms are grouped under various taxonomic categories or ranks or level in the hierarchical classification of Organisms. And, these are arrangements that leads to differ them according to their characteristics.

This process / science of identifying, naming and classifying animals in different taxons is known as Taxonomy.
