Movement of a conductor in a magnetic field produce electricity. This arrangement is known as generator or alternator. Actually we are converting heat energy/mechanical energy into electric energy.Fossil fuels are used in boilers and the heat makes steam. The steam turbine drives the generators Water power is also used in hydro power stations.Head of water rotates the turbine. There are other methods like solar power. nuclear power etc.
Hope you got it....
