1) As we move left to right in period number of valence electrons increases from 0 to 4 and decrease from 4 to 0.
2) As we move down across period number of shells or orbit increases.
Nitrogen is more electronegative than Phosphorus because it has to gain only 1 electron to achieve it's nobel gas configuration.
