How is ethyl bromide prepared from ethane and ether

This is an unusual pathway to make bromoethane. It is more usual to make it by addition of hydrogen bromide to ethene. However, bromine reacts freely with ethane to give bromoethane and it is possible to control the ratio of bromine so that the major bromination product is the mono-substituted bromide.
