1. Using ethyl alcohol:- Ethyl bromide can be prepared from ethyl alcohol by treating it with phosphorus tribromide. It is a substitution reaction.
2. Using Ethane:- When ethane reacts with bromine in presence of AlBr₃, ethyl bromide can be obtained.
3C₂H₅OH + PBr₃ → C₂H₅Br + H₃PO₃
2. Using Ethane:- When ethane reacts with bromine in presence of AlBr₃, ethyl bromide can be obtained.
C₂H₆ + Br₂ —> CH₃-CH₂-Br + HBr
3. Using ethene:- Ethene or Ethylene can be used along with Hydrogen bromide solution to obtain ethyl bromide. It is an addition hydrohalogenation reaction, where reaction with the hydrogen bromide solution (an electrophile) attacks the C=C bond.
C₂H₄ + HBr → C₂H₅Br
