Explanation:

During evaporation, the liquid absorbs heat from the surface with which it is in contact. This heat is used to overcome the force of attraction between the constituent matter particles of the liquid, which makes them move apart and as a result the whole liquid evaporates. This heat energy is known as Latent Heat.

Now, this heat energy is taken from the surface, and thus, the surface cools down. So, we can say that evaporation causes cooling by absorption of heat energy.
