In the domestic system, the merchant capitalist would provide the capital and raw materials to small scale household producers to produce the manufactured product. Hence, production was done on a small scale. In the factory system of production, large number of workers would gather in a factory owned by the capitalist.

In the domestic system, work was put out to workers who worked in there own homes, at their own speed and who were very much their own masters.Whereas.. In the factory systems people became wage slaves working for a master, tied to the requirements of the machines.
