We CANNOT say that friction is 'HARMFUL' for cricket.
It is both good and bad for the game of Cricket:
Friction helps in-
- To catch the ball
- To run
- Helps the ball to move
- It helps the batsman to hit the ball
Friction opposes in-
- When a batsman hits the ball, it stops after travelling some distance.
Hence we can say that friction is both supporting and opposing in cricket.
Hope this helps!

It is not compulsory that friction is always harmful for cricket.
that is other thing that if we shot the ball the friction reduces the speed and due to this chances of getting a boundary decreases and sometimes there are chances of wicket
