Friction between two surfaces causes heat to be generated.
This heat is difficult to be captured for use and is usually lost to the surroundings. As,out of the total energy inputted, some of the energy is lost as heat- the resulting useful energy output is comparatively low. This is why friction is said to be a cause of energy wastage.

So, to prevent this unnecessary energy wastage friction must be reduced.

Although friction cannot be completely eliminated, it can be reduced by the following methods:
⇒the use of smoother surfaces,
⇒the use of lubricants(ex. grease)
⇒the implementation of a streamlined shape
⇒the reduction of the amount of contact between the surfaces(ex.by using       rollers)
