The oil coats the surfaces of the moving parts and makes them slippery. They slide over each other more easily, so there is less friction. Friction is always parallel to the surface in contact. In some cases, friction is desirable while in other cases, friction reduces the effectiveness of machines.

Friction is desirable many times….
_when you drive in a rainy day, so on a rainy days, people throw sand on roads to increase friction…due to which the risk of accidents(car slip up) decreases…
_you avoid slipper when you have to go to some slipping area….
