How is gender stereotyping still relevant?

I think in this day and age of infertility issues and whatnot, one should feel lucky to have a child, and should feel really, really lucky to have two. Of any gender. Seriously.

I see so many couples struggle and go for endless treatments and therapies and it's very emotionally and physically taxing for them. I'm pretty sure they don't have any questions of the sort - boy or girl. They would be ever so happy just to have a baby.

So for once, can we stop with the discussion on boys vs. girls? They are kids. They are born with their individual personalities, irrespective of gender. Let's respect and nurture that rather than doing any gender stereotyping.

Our focus, in my opinion, should be to raise happy, healthy and well adjusted people. That's all.

In social psychology, a stereotype is an over-generalized belief about a particular category of people. It is an expectation that people might have about every person of a particular group. The type of expectation can vary; it can be, for example, an expectation about the group's personality, preferences, or ability..

Gender stereotyping refers to the practice of ascribing to an individual woman or man specific attributes, characteristics, or roles by reason only of her or his membership in the social group of women or men.
