How is heat transfer distinguished from the other forms of energy transfer?

Heat is defined as the transfer of energy between two systems as a result of temperature differences. As they say in middle school science classes, this transfer can be by conduction, convection or radiation. Energy can be transferred from one thing to another mechanically with or without a temperature difference.
