Heating of wood:

  • Burning of wood is a chemical change.
  • When wood is burnt, the new product obtained is ash which cannot be changed back to wood.
  • When wood burns, carbon dioxide is released.

Heating of dry ice:

  • The burning of dry ice is a physical change.
  • When dry ice is heated or burnt, it melts down from its solid to a liquid state.
  • The change is a physical one because no new product or substance is formed in burning of dry ice.
