Universal history in the "Western tradition" is generally divided into 3 parts, viz. medieval, ancient, & modern time.
Explanation:
Historians try to divide history into various periods in order to capture a particular period 's features. This helps us reflect on the key characteristics of a period. This also illustrates how the transition from one period to the next is of considerable significance.
Incase of India, history was divinded into 3 phases -
- Ancient: The period was initially made up of Vedic society, and the "political organisation" revolved around the "Mahajanapadas" . In the time, several great Indian dynasties were in existence such as the Mauryans, Pallavas, Cholas, & Guptas.
- Medieval: The Islamic dynasties had invaded during this period. The "Sultanates" & the "Mughals" dominated the period. During this period, there were great developments in art, architecture, & religion.
- Modern: This period focuses on India's fight for independence against the British and we consider India's formation as a "Democratic Republic" at the end of this phase.
