According to me, Indian history can be divided in on basis of religion and invasion in one one way below

1 st era- till 250 BC -Dominance of Hinduism

2nd era- till 7th century- Birth and spread of Buddhism

3rd era-till 11 century- Revival of Hindusim and decline of Buddhism in India

4the era- till early 18th century- Islamic invasion and islamic rule in India

5th era- till end of 18th century- revival of hindu rulers( marathas)

6th era- till 1947- Colonization by British

From 1947 till date- Democratic and secular rule
