ICBN stands for International Code of Botanical Nomenclature which is a set of rules to name plants based on their origin.
Carl Linnaeus proposed elementary rules in his book 'Philosphia Botanica' in 1751. First Botanical Congress was held in Paris. Laws framed there were called Paris code.
In 1930, the 5th International Botanical Congress was held for framing rules and regulations for naming plants. The 12th meeting was held in July 1975 at Leningrad, USSR.
Based on the discussion held in these meetings, the system of ICBN was adapted, in 1978.
The latest IBC was held in China in 2017.
