nerve impulse is transmitted from one neuron to another through junctions called synapses. A synapse is formed by the membranes of a pre-synaptic neuron and a post-synaptic neuron, which may or may not be separated by a gap called synaptic cleft.

The information acquired at the end of the dendritic tip of a nerve cell sets off a chemical reaction that creates an electrical impulse. This impulse travels from the dendrite to the cell body and then along the axon to its end. At the end of the axon, the electrical impulse sets off to release some chemicals. These chemicals cross the synapse(Synapse is a microscopic gap between the pair of adjacent neuron over which nerve impulses pass) and starts a similar electrical impulse in the dendrite of the next neuron.
