In USA, secularism means, there is a strict separation between State and Religion. State does not interfere in religious affairs at all and religions are not allowed to influence state’s decisions.
In India, secularism means, all religions are equal for constitution and state shall not patronise or support any religion. Indian State can interfere in religious laws if they are harming or violating human dignity or rights. E.g. Constitution interfered in Hindu religion and banned Untouchability, interfered in Islam recently and is planning to ban triple talaak. Positive discrimination or Affirmative action allows Indian state to give spl. rights to minority religious groups under Fundamental Rights and also reservation to certain historically socially backward religious communities like SCs, STs and OBCs.
