how is it possible for energy transformations to increase the order in living things if, according to the second law of thermodynamics, energy transformations make the universe more disordered?

Answer:  Example: eating a chip and storing the energy as fat.  

1 point of view: Storing energy in the bonds of a fat molecule decreases entropy .  

other point of view: Lots of energy was released to make the chip, pick up the chip, digest the chip, and the stored energy will be released pretty quickly.

In the other point of view  more energy is released (more disorder, more entropy) than is stored when you ate the chip.
