How is it possible?Only valid answers are accepted

Let a = b

Then,we can write as:
a \times b = {a}^{2}

Now,adding (-b^2) both sides

ab - {b}^{2} = {a}^{2} - {b}^{2}

b(a - b) = (a + b)(a - b)

[Using identity a^2 - b^2 = (a+b)( a-b) and on the R.H.S taking b as common]
b = \frac{(a + b)(a - b)}{(a - b)}
b = a + b
b = b+b

[Because a = b]

2b = b

Now,put any number in value of b, suppose we put 1,then:

2×1 = 1
2=1
