magnesium chloride forms when the transfer of electrons take place and when the current is passed through the solution of MgCl2 electrolysis starts and the solution gets ionized due to which they conduct electricity.

it's chemical equation is ----

2Mg + Cl2 >>> 2MgCl

thank you

for any doubts plz ask....

Dear friend,

In this reaction, Magnesium is an Electron Donator and chlorine act as electron receiver. Magnesium has to lose its two Electrons and chlorine has to gain one electron to achieve their complete Octate. Then ionic Bond formation takes place between Mg and Cl ions which gives Magnesium chloride as Resulting Compound.

Why does MgCl2 conduct electricity:

Magnesium chloride is an ionic compound. Magnesium chloride release ions in the solution which conduct electricity.

# Thank you.
