It is a portion of hind brain,. It controls the autonomic functions such as breathing, heart, digestion, blood vessels function, sneezing ect. It is part of brain stem, b'cause of this it help in the transferring of messages from various part of brain and spinal chord.  The motor and sensory nerve from midbrain and forebrain is situated in medulla.
