Monocot roots -

☆. Periycle produces only lateral roots 
☆. Number of Xylem and phloem numerous ( 8 to many) 
☆. Xylem vessels are oval or rounded. 
☆. Conjunctive tissue mostly sclerenchymatous sometimes parenchymatous. 
☆. Pith large and well developed 
☆. No secondary growth.

¤ Examples: Colocasia, Musa, Maize 

Dicot roots -

◇. Pericycle give rise to lateral roots , cork cambium and part of vascular cambium 
◇. Number of xylem and phloem groups limited (2-6 or 8) 
◇. Xylem vessels angular or polygonal in transverse section 
◇. Conjunctive tissue parenchymatous 
◇. Pith absent or very small 
◇. Secondary growth occurs.

Monocots are having seeds with single cotyledon whereas Dicots are having seeds with two cotyledons.
Monocots differ from Dicots in four distinct structural features : leaves, stems, roots, and flowers.
