Each naphron has a glomerulus, the site of blood filtration . As blood flows through the glomerulus, blood  pressure pushes water and solutes from the capillaries into the capsule through a filtration  membrane. This glomerular filtration begins the urine formation process.

Nephron is the functional unit of kidney. Its main function is filtration of the blood and formation of urine. Urine is formed in three steps which are

1. Filtration

Blood enters glomerulus through efferent arteriole and leave via afferent arterioles. Due to hydro-static pressure most of the water and salts flow out of the blood into the Bowman's capsule. This is known as glomerular filtrate.

2. Re-absorption

In this step, 99% of the glomerular filtrate is reabsorbed into blood capillaries. The ascending loop of Henle allows re absorption of salts and descending loop of Henle allows re-absorption of water.

3. Secretion of tubules

In this step, different ions, urea and other nitrogenous waste particles are added into filtrate. The filtrate present in the tubules is now known as urine.
