If it weren't for the ocean currents places like Scandinavia in northern Europe would not be as habitable as they are and you would simply not have the climate that is today in the same places in the world.
Ocean currents acts to neutralize the temperature difference between different areas in the oceans just like the winds do on land. As a body of water warms and cools slowly it's an excellent, and fairly stable, transmitter of heat and cold which feeds into the weather system. Warm water raises chances for rain, cold water reduces it. The Gulf streams warm and salty water brings life to Scandinavia, which otherwise would be a frozen desert (arctic climate) due to its location far from the equator. With a greater influx of arctic water due to ice melting because of global warming, the Gulf stream risk being diverted further south meaning less warmth for Scandinavia.
Also ocean currents lead to influx of nutritious water (water with planktons and other species at the bottom of the food chain) to places where there is less, bringing fish with it in a seasonal pattern - of great importance for marine life and the worlds fishermen.

The warm current gulf stream help us that the northwestern region is warm and the cold current bring a lot of plankton and fish feed on it thatsahy currents are helpful for us
