How is orographic rainfall caused? Give two characteristics of the same.... please be fast tomorrow is my exam and please explain in an easy way.​

Answer:

Orographic rainfall is produced when moist air moves over a mountain range. When the air rises, it cools down and then serves as a source of precipitation most of which falls upwind of the mountain ridge.

Characteristics:

It only occurs when the moist is forced to rise upwards in a mountain terrain.

There can either be liquid or solid phases based on the freezing level

Orographic rainfall occurs when the air is forced to ascend up the slope of a mountain range(windward slope)

After the wind ascends up the slope it descends on the opposite or leeward side
Example-western Ghats
