Ozone layer is a blanket around the earth which is formed of the O3 molecule.

This O3 molecule is unstable near the earth surface that is why it is found as the outermost layer of the earth. This blanket of Ozone protects the living forms on earth from the harmful UV radiations.

Although Ozone is harmful for us but it's presence around the earth proves to be beneficial.

When in the outermost layer of earth the UV rays fall on the oxygen molecules, it dissociate it in oxygen atoms.

O2 + UV rays ----> O + O

These oxygen atoms recombine to form oxygen or when a free radical of oxygen combine with oxygen molecule it forms ozone molecules.

O° + O2 -----> O3

This is how ozone is formed.

Depletion of ozone layer is a concern fir us because:

If ozone won't be there the UV rays will reach the earth surface and UV rays are a reason for many disease.
